We believe that table tennis is about more than just the score—it is about the connections we build and the support we offer one another in our toughest battles. In that spirit, we are honoured to celebrate the life and legacy of Claire LeBlanc.
A Life Defined by Sport
Claire LeBlanc was a radiant talent and a beloved figure in the Moncton table tennis community. From her early days at Aberdeen School, she was a standout athlete, excelling in gymnastics, basketball, volleyball, and—most notably—table tennis.
Her dedication to the game saw her rise through the ranks, eventually competing on a national stage. Throughout the 1970s, Claire’s talent took her to championships in Calgary and Regina, where she proudly represented her home and her club. In 1977, she formed an iconic doubles partnership with her friend, Club President Ingrid McPhee—a moment captured in photographs that continue to inspire our players today.
A Legacy That Lives On
In 1981, at the young age of 23, Claire passed away following a courageous battle with cancer. The loss was felt deeply, but the Moncton table tennis community refused to let her passion for the game be forgotten.
In 1984, the Claire LeBlanc Memorial Cup was established to honor her memory, her sportsmanship, and her love for the sport. This tradition serves as a reminder to every player who steps up to the table that their actions can leave a lasting impact on those around them.
Carrying the Torch
Today, the spirit of Claire LeBlanc remains a vibrant part of our club culture. In 2025, a new generation of players helped revive these meaningful traditions, recreating historic moments and holding showcase matches to ensure her story is passed down to young athletes.
